[this is if you have actual video]
You can drag the clips into the timeline then trim them forward or from the end if you want to. If you want to make it where there is only the music; then set the sound preference by using the scale button next to the mic icon.

    Does that help?
Ive pretty much just done drag and paste for mine.
[Right click opens a menu also ]

I’ve made several anime music videos with Windows Movie Maker, but it’s not the greatest, I suggest downloading Ulead DVD Video Studio, it’s a free 130MB download off download.com and you can use it free for 30 days and it’s much more compatible with different file types and has more effects to choose from.

First, which anime are you going to make it out of? So I can know what kind clips you exactly need. And second here is a quick tutorial of WMM(Windows Movie Maker)

Well, start it up and get ready:

To start a new project, simply click
    File > New Project

Now, to import your clips onto WMM, click
    File > Import
select all the clips and music you need

Now to cut and crop parts of the clip you need just click the folder of the specified clip and highlight the clip in the main window, now press play on the preview box to the right and view the clip, see what part you want to cut out. First pause at the begining of the part you want and press the 9th button under the screen to begin the initial cut, then wait until you want it to end and click it again to cut that portion of that clip out. Now to insert that edited clip into your project timeline, simply drag it onto the flimstrip below the main window.

Rinse and repeat all the clips you want.

Now to add the music to the background you will want to go the left hand section of the filmstip and click the very first button that looks like a small white square with a red arrow. Now you will be in Timeline mode. Here you have two gray horizontal bars. The Smaller one is where your music MP3 or WAV file goes to, just drag the music file onto the smaller bar, you can decide when the music should come on by dragging it further to the right.

Now, you don’t want your music and video sound to overlap, so what you now do is on the left handsection of the timeline click the 4th button that looks like volume bar and drag the scroller all the way from the middle to the music end, now your video sound is muted and all you can hear is your music.

These are just the basics, your gonna have to spend two-three hours getting the hand of cutting, cropping, making your music fit in with the clips and special effects. Now to view your progress click the 1st button on the left hand section of the timeline to go back your filmstip and right click on the 1st frame and select ‘Play Entire Story Board’, this will play what you have upto now. Once you are done and want to save your movie on you Hard Drive, click File > Save Movie.

You will be then asked to fill out a form on the bottom of the popup, wanting general info, like the owner, date, comments and name of your movie. Then they want you to pick the quality of your movie settings which is located on top.
    Low
    Medium
    High
    Other

I recommend picking High for now, but if you want your video to look super good, pick other and select what you KB/sec should go. I suggest ‘NTSC for Brodband 768 KB/sec’, or if your movie isn’t too long then maybe 1500, beware though picking better quality will make your video bigger in MB and will take longer to save and store on your harddrive. Once your done click next and then it should ask where to store your new movie, pick a spot and click next and prepare to wait.

Be sure to download the windows updates from the Microsoft Update site, to get the updated version of WIndows Movie Maker, with special effects, the one that comes pre-installed on your computer doesn’t have any effects at all.

Any more question, feel free to ask.

    EDIT:

I got some clips here, right click and save target as to save the movie on your hard drive.
Full Metal Alchemist Video Game Intro:::m:t_fullmetalalchemist_gi::m:black

    Full Metal Alchemist again:

Full Metal Alchemist again: This one is a music video 4minutes long.

Full Metal Alchemist again. This one is a music video 4minutes again.

    Now for some Chobits: (6MB)
    (6.4MB)

Open this site for two more chobits clips, they’re kinda big in size:
Hope that helps and good luck. :)

Above all else, read the following guides.

This site will explain everything you need to know about making a quality AMV. There is more to it than dragging and dropping clips onto a timeline.

As far as downloading clips, not a good idea. It will most likely contain subtitles, and have been re-encoded so many times that the quality will be equal to a mosaic tile. not to mention the fact that it has to be re-encoded by movie maker, which only encodes in .wmv format.

Check out the forum area of that web-site they also have much better quality software available and people that are willing to help you make that quality AMV.

I’m also available if you’d like. Feel free to send me a personal message if you want some more information.
